The Stevens House was built in 1856 by Hiram Sanford Stevens. Bricks from the Presidio wall were used to contruct this home. As with the Fish House, the Stevens home had a packed dirt floor. Today this house is part of the Tucson Museum of Art.
Hiram Stevens was a good friend of Edward Fish and also a merchant and politician. He held the position of county treasurer, county supervisor, and territorial delegate to the United States Congress. He was married to Petra Santa Cruz, sister to Atanacia Santa Cruz Hughes, wife of Sam Hughes, and the granddaughter of the woman who did his laundry. For reasons unknown, Stevens shot his wife and then himself in the spring of 1893. Petra lived but Stevens died of his wound.
