CRYSTAL PALACE

CRYSTAL PALACE
The Crystal Palace was built in 1879 by Frederick Wehrfritz. The two story building was first called the Golden Eagle Brewery but the name just didn´t seem impressive enough so it was later changed to the Crystal Palace. The first floor was dedicated to gaming, drinking, and entertainment. The second floor was leased office space. Dr. George Goodfellow, surgeon to the gunfighters, had his office on the second floor of the Crystal Palace, as did Marshal Virgil Earp, Sheriff Johnny Behan, Judge Wells Spicer, and Doctor Harry Matthews.
The Crystal Palace´s pride was fine liquor served in the high quality glassware and supposedly honest gambling tables. Entertainment was mild compared to the rowdy atmosphere of the Bird Cage Theatre. The Crystal Palace had genteel performers with nice song and proper dance. All of this put the Palace above the other 109 Saloons in Tombstone at the time.
Tombstone´s famous figures such as; Doc Holliday, Curly Bill Brocius, John Slaughter, Johnny Ringo, Bat Masterson, and the Earp brothers frequented the Crystal Palace.
Today the Crystal Palace looks just as it did then. Frozen in time.
