BLACK BEAR![]() Young Black Bear- Photo by Chris Scott The American black bear, Ursus americanus, was once common throughout North America in a variety of habitats, including desert scrub. Most bears live in the higher mountainous regions. These animals eat mainly vegetable matter (fruit, leaves, nuts) but also eat insects and occasionally small mammals. They are part of a larger population that extends across the Chihuahuan Desert regions of Mexico. |
