The Catalina Foothills is an area in north Tucson that is nestled against the CatalinaMountains. The dramatic city and mountain views are highly sought after.
The Catalina Mountains got their name from a Jesuit priest, Father Eusebio Francisco Kino. One story says that he named them after his sister, Catarina. Another story says he named it after St. Catherine.

CATALINA FOOTHILLS HIKING TRAILS: Finger Rock Trail - This is a very difficult, steep climb. The hike is 5 miles from trailhead to Finger Rock. Directions to trailhead: Go north on Swan, turn west (left) on Skyline, turn north (right) on Alvernon Way, which will dead end at the trailhead.
Pima Canyon Trail - This hike is easy for the first few miles but gets extremely difficult. Total hike is 7 miles. Directions to trailhead: From Ina Rd go north on Christie Dr. Turn east (right) on Magee Rd. Trailhead at dead end.
Ventana Canyon Trail - This hike is difficult because of some steep climbing areas. Total hike is 6.5 miles. Directions to trailhead: From Sunrise and Kolb go north on Kolb, turn right on resort Drive (entrance to Loew's Ventana Canyon Resort) turn left into the employees parking lot, park and follow trailhead sign.
Sabino Canyon - There are numerous trailheads from the Sabino Canyon Visitor Center Parking Lot. Many trails are easy. Directions: From Sunrise and Sabino Canyon turn north (left) on Sabino Canyon, immediate right hand turn into the Sabino Canyon Visitor Center Parking lot.
